👀 I’m Just a Bill — American Innovation and Choice Online Act
A Liana Banyan “I’m Just a Bill” Bounty Poster
What is this bill?
AICOA would prohibit dominant online platforms (Amazon, Google, Apple, Meta) from self-preferencing their own products and services over competitors on the platforms they operate.
What does it actually do?
- Self-preferencing prohibition: Dominant platforms can’t preference their own products/services in search results, app stores, or marketplace algorithms.
- Tying restrictions: Can’t require business users to buy other services as a condition of platform access.
- Discrimination prohibition: Can’t treat business users worse than the platform’s own offerings.
- Enforcement: FTC + DOJ Antitrust + state AGs.
Who votes when?
- Senate Judiciary + House Judiciary: Active reintroduction
- Floor: Pending committee passage
How does this affect cooperative-class families?
The cooperative is structurally the alternative to platform-capitalism extraction. AICOA addresses one symptom (self-preferencing); Liana Banyan addresses the underlying disease (extractive ownership architecture). Composes with #3 Let’s Go Shopping cooperative-marketplace cluster.
